To experience the jungle of the Amazon Basin in Peru and to see the amazing variety of wildlife that lives there, join us on this tour which starts from Puerto Maldonado.  We visit the pristine Colacocha Lake where we see a huge variety of birds, fish, mammals and flora. At night, we go walking to see the nocturnal creatures in their natural environment and in the morning we see the beautiful sunrise as we return to Puerto Maldonado.  This is the most bio-diverse region of Peru’s Amazon Basin and you will be fascinated by its beauty, flora and fauna.

ITINERARY:  Puerto Maldonado Classic Tour

Day 1:

Reception at the airport and transfer to Puerto Maldonado and go by motorized canoe down the river to Tambopata Lodge (3 hours). On the journey the vegetation changes from colonized jungle to virgin jungle. On board, you have a snack, and when you reach the hostel you have a "welcome drink" and a typical lunch from jungle. In the afternoon, we take a walk to "Mainland", which is the part of the forest located behind Tambopata Lodge. It is dominated by giant Brazilian nut trees. In the surroundings are often several mammals, including spider monkeys, toucans and a variety of bird species. After dinner, you have a night walk to find nocturnal animals and insects, as 50% of jungle animals are nocturnal.

Day 2:

After breakfast, we start a hike of 3.5 miles to Lake Colacocha. Along the way, we observe exotic plants and insects, colourful butterflies and birds, monkeys and with a little luck maybe some large mammals. We then board the lake canoes to travel around the lake and watch the wildlife on the banks and in the water, including alligators and piranhas. We return to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon is free for various activities and dinner.

Day 3:

After breakfast we board the canoe and return to Puerto Maldonado watching an unforgettable dawn on the Tambopata River. Then transfer to the airport and departure.
