ITINERARY  PUNO: LAKE TITICACA AND SILLUSTANI RUINS TOUR

Day 1: Chullpas of Sillustani on the way to Puno

Pick up from Juliaca and transfer to the hotel in Puno. On the way, we visit the famous Sillustani Chullpas, amazing conical tombs made of stone (12m high) where the Aymara ancients buried their important priests. The lagoon Umayo, located in front of the Chullpas, adds its beauty to the landscape of the place. Also we have the opportunity to observe the birdlife including Flamingos, Andean Geese, Carpenter Cocks etc, and the animals of the area. When we reach Puno you will have some spare time to rest and to adapt the altitude (3800m).

Day 2: Uros and Amantani Islands

After an early breakfast, we transfer to the dock at Lake Titicaca and embark on a motorized boat for an unforgettable excursion. We visit the fascinating floating Reed Islands of Uros. Their inhabitants are Andean natives, who construct their own islands adding new capes of totora (reeds) periodically, to maintain them. Also they use this material to construct their houses and boats.  You are given a demonstration and explanation about how the islands are made and maintained.

Next we go to the famous Island of Amantani, inhabited by people who still speak the Quechua language and still retain their native customs. In this amazing island, we visit ancient ruins, learn about the local customs and enjoy their local foods. We also have the wonderful experience of sleeping at the house of the locals.

Day 3: Taquile Island and Puno

After breakfast we continue on the boat to the beautiful and picturesque island of Taquile. It is inhabited also by Quechuan natives, who have developed an efficient, fascinating and unique social system, and magnificent textile techniques.
