ITINERARY: Lima – Traditional City Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Lima

Assistance on your arrival in Lima and transfer to your hotel. Free time to rest and prepare for your tour of Lima, the “City of Kings”, which has been the centre of power and wealth in wonderful Peru.

Day 2: Lima

8.00am After breakfast, we pick you up from your hotel for a guided tour of the landmarks and attractions of Lima. The tour includes:
• Lima’s Historical Centre, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, where we have a panoramic view of the Plaza San Martin. The Centre is full interesting historical and architectural buildings including, the Main Square, Government Palace, La Cathedral with its imposing twin towers, Archbishop Palace with Moorish-style carved balconies, City Hall, Church of Santo Domingo, where the tombs of Santa Rosa and San Martin de Porras are located, and Lima’s Colonial Balconies.

• The Convent and Church of San Francisco, the greatest monumental complex of Colonial Art in all the Americas and Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Basilica of 21 altars, Convent of Cloisters and chapter rooms and tangerine, Chorus and Library of the monks, a Museum showing 11 paintings of the Rubens School, the Sacristy with paintings of Zurbaran and Rivera, great patio decorated with Seville tiles of XVIth Century, Moorish arches and underground Catacombs.

• The fascinating ancient adobe pyramid of Huaca Pucllana, which dates back to 200 AD and was the ceremonial and administrative centre of Lima Culture and considered by the Incas as Ñaupallaqta, «The First Holy Town”.

• The beautiful Park El Olivar de San Isidro, with olive trees brought from Spain in the fifteenth century, and declared a national monument in 1959.

• The Central Park (Parque Kennedy) of Miraflores and Larco Mar, a tourist and entertainment centre, a symbol of modern Lima and vantage point to enjoy a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. At Larco Mar you have free time for lunch and some shopping.

• After lunch, for an excellent introduction into the history of Peru, we visit the Museo Larco Herrera, considered the museum with the largest private collection of Peruvian pre-Columbian art. This exhibition shows examples of textiles, one of which has a record breaking 398 threads per inch; and the tools used by ancient Peruvians to work in ceramics and metal. It also has a collection of various pre-Inca and Incan ceramics, gold and silver with semi-precious stones.
Return to hotel in Lima and/or assistance and transfer to your departure.
